CAF Confederation Cup: USMA and CRB reach the semi-finals

CR Belouizdad and USM Alger have reached the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup after successful quarter-final second legs in Algiers, keeping alive hopes of a historic run—and even a potential all-Algerian final.

USMA overturns the tie and confirms its continental pedigree

USMA secured qualification on Sunday with a 1-0 victory over AS Maniema Union at the July 5 Stadium. Brahim Benzaza’s decisive goal enabled the Algiers side to overturn their first-leg defeat (2-1).

Solid defensively, the “Red and Black” held firm under pressure from the Congolese team. This marks their third semi-final appearance in four years. They will now face Morocco’s Olympique Club Safi, whom they previously met in the group stage.

CR Belouizdad makes history

CR Belouizdad, meanwhile, wrote a new chapter in its history by reaching the semi-finals of the competition for the first time. A goalless draw against Egypt’s Al-Masry, combined with a 1-1 result in the first leg, was enough to send the Chabab through.

The club returns to a continental semi-final for the first time since 1996, confirming its growing stature on the African stage.

A high-level clash against Zamalek awaits CRB

In the semi-finals, CRB will face Egypt’s Zamalek, who advanced after eliminating AS Otoho d’Oyo. The encounter revives a familiar rivalry, as both teams have already met in previous international competitions.

Eyes on a possible all-Algerian final

The semi-finals are scheduled for April 12 and 19. Both Algerian sides will be aiming to continue their impressive runs—and could even set up a historic all-Algerian final if they go all the way.
