4 Dead and 13 Injured in Landslide in Oran. Brahim Merad confirmed on sunday that the government would urgently address the needs of all victims in Oran, following the deadly landslide in the Sanaouber neighborhood.
“All necessary measures for the victims’ care will be swiftly implemented in coordination with local authorities,” Merad said. Merad, along with other officials, including the Minister of Housing Tarek Belaribi and the Minister of National Solidarity Soraya Mouloudji, visited Oran to assess the situation after four people were killed during the landslide that occurred from Saturday to Sunday. The incident also led to the collapse of five buildings.
The Interior Minister emphasized that the government, under President Tebboune’s direct oversight, is committed to ensuring the safety of citizens. “The president is closely monitoring the overall situation caused by this disaster,” Merad stated. Efforts to relocate the victims and address precarious housing will continue.
The government is also prioritizing the elimination of such risks nationwide, calling for the evacuation of citizens exposed to similar dangers. Authorities are working on intensifying coordination and preventive measures to reduce the risks posed by crumbling buildings and flooding. A technical committee has been set up to coordinate the identification and assistance of victims, while local solidarity services provide social and psychological support.
