60-Bed Hospital Opens in El Kerma

The healthcare sector in Oran province has been strengthened with the recent commissioning of the Public Hospital Establishment (EPH) in the municipality of El Kerma, with a capacity of 60 beds, according to the local Director of Health and Population, Hadj Boutouaf.

Speaking to APS on the sidelines of the ongoing International Optics and Eyewear Exhibition, Boutouaf stated that this new healthcare facility is one of several major projects the province has benefited from in recent years.

The hospital offers several specialties, including general surgery, gynecology-obstetrics, orthopedic surgery, and pediatrics. It is equipped with essential medical services, such as a laboratory and radiology equipment.

The new EPH also features an emergency medical and surgical unit, which will reduce the need to transfer patients to larger healthcare centers such as CHU Dr. Benzerdjeb and EHU 1er Novembre 1954 in the provincial capital.

Boutouaf further recalled that Oran has emerged as a regional hub for advanced healthcare in recent years, having benefited from several significant projects, including the Traumatology Center in Oued Tlelat, a major burns hospital, and the Gdyel Hospital.

Other projects currently under construction include a Cancer Institute, a Head and Neck Hospital in Oran, and a Pulmonary and Allergy Diseases Hospital in Bethioua.
