Algeria Captivates UNESCO Africa Week

The UNESCO Africa week took place in Paris under the theme “Worldwide solidarity for the restitution and restoration of African heritage through culture, education and science”. This annual event celebrates the continent’s cultural diversity across different regions in Africa, through exhibitions, conferences, film or gastronomy, and highlights the importance of education for sustainable development and innovation.

The Algerian models representatives took us to a vibrant journey through Algeria. Stunning traditional garments were displayed and by the same they showcased the rich cultural diversity of every regions. From the majestic chedda of Tlemcen to the elegant gandoura of Constantine, from the colorful dresses of Kabylie to the styles of the Sahara and even the capital, each outfit told a story. One participant, dressed like Emir Abdelkader, brought Algerian history to life. “Reviving this garment was not a boast,” he shared on Instagram. “It was an expression, quiet, deliberate, sincere… This is not about return. It is about recognition.”

The meaning of the whole show goes beyond a simple fasion show, but it’s about a broader spectrum. The participants carried the memory of a nation and the importance of honoring our culture. Their display of diversity captivated other delegations and many took opportunity pictures. All of this reflects the importance of such events and the task to be present for the Algerian diaspora.
