General Chengriha installs new security director

On Saturday, May 24, 2025, General of the Army Saïd Chanegriha officially oversaw the appointment of General Ait Ouarabi Abdelkader as the new Director General of Internal Security, on behalf of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. He replaces General Haddad Abdelkader.

The ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Directorate General of Internal Security. It was also an opportunity for General Chanegriha to meet with senior officials, where he gave clear instructions to ensure discipline and commitment in fulfilling their sensitive duties.

This leadership change comes as part of efforts to strengthen Algeria’s security institutions and to adapt to rising regional and international threats. General Chanegriha has repeatedly emphasized the need for constant vigilance to protect Algeria’s sovereignty and national stability.

In a broader context, he reaffirmed the Algerian army’s determination to defend the country against any threat.
