Mohamed Lakhdar-Hamina , a vision forever etched in film

Mohamed Lakhdar-Hamina, Algeria’s only Palme d’Or winner, passed away Friday in Algiers at 91.
His masterpiece, Chronique des Années de Braise, won Cannes’ top prize in 1975 and was screened again the day of his passing, a poetic tribute to his legacy.
President Tebboune hailed him as a monument of world cinema, whose films revealed Algeria’s struggles to the world.
