School year opening in full swing

With the 2025-2026 school year kicking off in a couple of weeks, the government is intensifying preparations to ensure a smooth start for all students. The important event of the year is proceeding smoothly, with Minister of National Education Mohamed Seghir Saâdaoui confirming that all schools and essential supplies are fully ready.

Focusing on the  inauguration of new buildings. He insisted on the need for immediate equipment installation in new facilities, noting that this is essential, especially for student health monitoring.

To address potential issues like overcrowding or resource shortages, the Ministry welcomed new teaching pavilions to accommodate students. Furthermore, in Birtouta, temporary solutions were set up such as converting one primary school into a middle school annex to prevent any inconvenience for students and parents until the planned permanent facility is complete.

Parallel to the school preparations, Algiers Governor Mohamed Rabhi emphasized external site development and mandated the urgent launch of new public bus lines (ETUSA) to serve the new Sidi Abdallah housing complex, prioritizing safe and accessible transport for residents.

While the technical readiness of the schools is encouraging, the recurring challenge is the coordination between education infrastructure and urban development. The final solution rests in mandatory, pre-emptive coordination: future urban planning must ensure the transport lines, site landscaping, and school capacity certificates are secured before housing keys are delivered, eliminating the need for last-minute, temporary fixes.
