Keeping alive the revolution’s back-bone

August is a month etched into the very soul of Algeria’s history. This isn’t just another summer it’s a time when the entire nation pauses to honor a brutal past and celebrate a hard-won freedom. All across the country, museums and streets are alive with anticipation, preparing to welcome El Moudjahid (Veterans’) Day.
The Minister of Moudjahidine is embarking on a two-day working visit to the Skikda province, where he will preside over the commemoration and celebration of National Martyrs’ Day. This is a perfect place for the event, as Skikda was a focal point of the August 20, 1955, offensive, which was a game-changer for the revolution. It showed the world that the fight for independence was a widespread and unified movement, not just an isolated uprising.
This event is a big deal for our country and a powerful opportunity to keep our history alive. More importantly, it’s a chance to teach the younger generation about the heroic past of their now-free nation and the incredible challenges their ancestors faced to snatch liberty from the jaws of colonial cruelty, which claimed the lives of over 1.5 million martyrs.
Today, it’s the younger generation’s responsibility to walk the walk and talk the talk of their forefathers by preserving and protecting this hard-won land.
