Guardians of sovereignty

Algeria marks National People’s Army Day this Monday more than just a date on the calendar. Created in 2022 by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the day celebrates the sacred bond between the people and their army, honoring the ANP’s core mission: defending Algeria and its borders.
The ANP isn’t just a military force it’s the people in uniform. From the massive turnout at last year’s 70th Independence Day parade to its modern defense strategy, the army reflects the nation’s spirit, rooted in sacrifice, unity, and patriotism.
President Tebboune has repeatedly stressed that Algeria’s military doctrine is defensive. Its weapons serve peace, sovereignty, and international law never aggression.
Under Army Chief Saïd Chanegriha, the ANP has made serious strides: advanced tech, top-tier training, and elite readiness, proving itself in anti-terror efforts and joint military drills.
As threats evolve across the Sahel and Maghreb, Algeria’s army stands tall both a protective shield and a sharpened sword securing borders and supporting national development.
More than a commemoration, August 4th marks the ANP’s roots in the ALN the shift from revolutionary fighters to a modern, professional force. It’s a chance to pass on values of sovereignty, unity, and dignity to the next generation.
