Algeria takes office

Algeria has assumed the presidency of the African Union’s Peace and Security Council for August 2025, reinforcing its commitment to regional stability and economic integration.

Against a backdrop of growing conflicts across the continent, Algeria is combining robust financial contributions and diplomatic action to promote the AU’s peace agenda.

During its term, the country will lead key discussions on crises in Sudan and South Sudan, governance reforms, and security coordination among AU institutions. Elected for a three-year mandate (2025–2028), Algeria is determined to affirm its pivotal role as a stabilizing force on the continent.

Beyond security, Algeria is ramping up preparations to host the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025) in September. Officials stress its strategic importance in boosting trade, investment, and showcasing Algerian capabilities across industrial, agricultural, and creative sectors. Coordination with Afreximbank and regional partners continues, with all eyes on the fair as a catalyst for deeper African economic integration.
