The “Poet of the Revolution” honored

An event celebrating the life and work of Algerian poet Moufdi Zakaria has kicked off at the Abi Ras El-Nasiri Cultural Center in Mascara. The first-of-its-kind event, titled “Historical Milestones,” commemorates the 48th anniversary of Zakaria’s death.
The event, which runs for two days, features an exhibition of books, posters, and photographs that highlight the poet’s life and his significant role in the national liberation movement. Young poets from Mascara, including Abdelkader El-Hachemi and Mohamed Mansouri, praised the event for introducing audiences to a man who was a pioneering voice in revolutionary poetry.
The program includes a poetry night where local poets will recite Zakaria’s works, along with a workshop on revolutionary poetry for cultural center members. A lecture titled “Moufdi Zakaria… A Poet and Revolutionary’s Journey Against French Colonialism” will also be delivered by a university professor from Mascara.
