APU commission meets in Algiers to revise statutes

The Revision Commission of the African Parliamentary Union (APU) met Wednesday in Algiers to advance efforts to update the Union’s statutes and adapt them to today’s challenges.

APU Secretary General Idi Gado Boubacar said the reform process, launched in December 2023, aims to modernize the Union’s texts, strengthen its role, and boost its effectiveness. Proposed amendments cover membership, accession rules, and working methods.

He thanked Algeria’s parliamentary authorities for providing favorable conditions for the delegations, noting that discussions involved five countries that submitted proposals.

Commission President Pierre Flambeau Ngayap stressed that the debates prepare the ground for the upcoming Conference of Speakers of APU Member Parliaments, to be held in November in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
