Zionist entity frees nearly 2,000 palestinian prisoners in Gaza truce deal

Zionist occupation forces released 1,968 Palestinian prisoners on Monday in two batches as part of the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

The first group included 96 prisoners from the West Bank, many serving life or long-term sentences, while the second release covered 1,718 detainees from Gaza arrested during the latest assault. Another 154 prisoners will be transferred to Egypt.

The release was marred by heavy gunfire and tear gas fired by the Zionist forces near prison gates, targeting the families of released prisoners and journalists.

The move follows Hamas’s announcement last Thursday of a deal to end the war in Gaza, ensure the withdrawal of occupation forces, allow aid deliveries, and facilitate a mutual prisoner exchange.
