SILA closes the 28th chapter on a high note

After more than a week of lively activity and crowds, the 28th edition of SILA wrapped up yesterday, leaving behind a standout event packed with reading, exchanges, and fresh new spaces especially for English books and language.
This noticeable rise in English, favored by the younger generation compared to previous years, is a win-win for both the community and the nation. As Federico Fellini said, “a different language is a different vision of life.” Embracing a new language opens doors to new perspectives and opportunities, especially since English is a global language.
With over 5 million visitors and 1,000 exhibitors from 50 countries, SILA proved books still hold a special place in the hearts of Algerians. Minister Bendouda vowed to make reading a daily habit for every Algerian, emphasizing that SILA is more than an event it’s a year-round movement to keep the love of books alive. Despite a short prep time, the fair was a huge success, showcasing Algeria’s rich culture and open spirit with pride.
This edition featured 1,258 exhibitors spread over 565 booths, with 140,000 titles on display and 530 cultural events. A record 5.6 million visitors attended, peaking at 850,000 on November 7, reflecting the nation’s deep hunger for knowledge.
The event also celebrated cultural icons with awards and diplomas, while young authors took home top prizes for their debut books in various languages. It was a vibrant celebration of culture, creativity, and Algeria’s bright literary future.
