Africa’s startups future meets in Algiers

Africa’s startup revolution is gaining momentum and this week, all eyes turn to Algiers. The fourth African Startup Conference, opening this Saturday in Algeria, is set to explore fresh ways to fund innovative entrepreneurs  a cornerstone of the continent’s growing tech ecosystem, says Juste Omomo Ebi, President of the African Startups Association “TAS Africa.”

Scheduled from December 6 to 8, the event offers African governments a platform to adopt new financing models, expand innovation funds, and introduce tax incentives that encourage investment in cutting-edge projects.

Ebi highlights that access to funding remains one of the toughest barriers for African startups. Banks still demand heavy guarantees that don’t match the nature of young tech companies, while many foreign investors view African markets as “high-risk.”

Beyond financing, startups face other obstacles: weak digital infrastructure, slow internet, limited cloud solutions, and a lack of innovation hubs. Complex regulations and heavy administrative procedures further slow growth across several African countries.

This conference aims to tackle these challenges through open dialogue between governments and key actors in the startup ecosystem. Ebi notes that several African nations have already made significant progress, offering models that could inspire the rest of the continent.

Held in Algiers, the conference is also an opportunity to strengthen regional cooperation and create cross-border partnerships. TAS Africa is working on a comprehensive resource hub designed to help build strong, innovative companies capable of generating wealth and boosting Africa’s digital economy.
