Arab Cup Qatar 2025 ignites with a spectacular ceremony

The FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 began on December 1 with a spectacular opening ceremony at Al Bayt Stadium in Doha, blending culture, politics, and performance to highlight themes of Arab unity, peace, and renewal.
The event attracted over 60,000 spectators and included a symbolic narrative about the divisions and hopes for the Arab world, featuring notable appearances and musical performances. The tournament features 16 teams competing across six stadiums previously used in the 2022 World Cup, with more than 700,000 tickets sold so far.
The opening match was a major upset as Palestine defeated host nation Qatar 1-0 with a stoppage-time own goal by Qatar’s Sultan Al Brake, marking Palestine’s first Arab Cup win in 59 years. The result puts pressure on Qatar as they face upcoming group stage matches. Alongside this, Syria also shocked Tunisia with a 1-0 victory in Group A, setting an intense tone for the group competition.
The tournament runs until December 18 with the final scheduled at Lusail Stadium. Organizers have ensured easy access with free metro travel for ticket holders between the six venues, all connected by Qatar’s rail network. The Arab Cup promises high regional attention with nearly 4,000 journalists accredited to cover the matches and a strong fan turnout from within and outside the region.
