Cameras in buses for passengers safety

Algeria is stepping up passenger safety on inter-wilaya buses by installing cameras both at bus stations and inside the buses themselves.

At Algiers’ Grands Invalides bus station, surveillance is now visible everywhere at entrances, on platforms, in waiting areas, and, most importantly, on board the buses following a recommendation from the Ministry of Interior, Local Government, and Transport.

The system aims to deter misbehavior and ensure a calm, secure journey. “Passengers are monitored from start to finish,” explains Salah Ben Haddadi, director of SOGRAL bus station. Additional cameras are added as needed to cover blind spots.

The new 2025 fleet is fully equipped with state-of-the-art cameras. Some private operators had already installed similar systems on older buses. Drivers report significant benefits: better vehicle control, improved comfort, and fewer incidents of theft, fights, or drug use. Passengers also feel safer, particularly on long trips or at night.

Overall, this initiative transforms inter-wilaya travel into a more secure and peaceful experience, reflecting a clear commitment to safety and discipline on Algeria’s roads.
