€750 tourist allowance maintained, fraud controls tightened

Interior, Local Authorities and Transport Minister Saïd Sayoud reaffirmed that the €750 tourist allowance approved by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune remains fully in force, stressing that its legal framework has been tightened to prevent misuse .
Speaking before the National People’s Assembly during discussions on the Road Code, Sayoud said there is no plan to reverse the allowance, which he described as a citizens’ right aimed at helping Algerian families travel abroad.
He explained that new safeguards such as requiring beneficiaries to hold a bank card were introduced to ensure traceability, after authorities uncovered widespread fraud by travel agencies, particularly involving suspicious trips to Tunisia. These practices prompted stricter controls and new authorization requirements for buses crossing the border.
