Major energy development program announced for Ghardaïa

The Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjal, announced in Ghardaïa the launch of a wide-ranging development program aimed at strengthening public electricity and gas services across the wilaya.

The plan is designed to improve energy performance and support local development, with Ghardaïa set to benefit from an installed capacity of 1,120 megavolt-amperes, an electricity connection rate of 95 percent, and natural gas coverage reaching 74 percent.

Speaking at a coordination meeting following his working visit, the minister explained that significant funding has been allocated to the sector, with 70 percent dedicated to electricity connections and 30 percent to gas expansion projects. He also revealed that two Sonelgaz units will be established in the communes of Zelfana and Mansoura in the first quarter of 2026, aiming to bring services closer to citizens, simplify bill payments, and ensure faster response to technical disruptions.

Mr. Adjal added that this visit falls within a national program to assess energy performance and monitor the progress of development projects at the local level. He further underlined ongoing coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture to complete the electrification of all agricultural holdings in the wilaya, including the installation of solar panels for remote farms, in line with efforts to promote renewable energy and support agricultural investment.
