3000 Higher buses from China to Algeria

Algeria has taken a significant step toward modernizing its public transport with the purchase of 3,000 buses from China’s Higer, part of a broader plan to replace outdated vehicles. The deal, valued at over $200 million, is the largest-ever bus export contract from China.
This move follows a tragic minibus accident, underscoring the need for safer, more modern transportation.
The first delivery is seen as a symbol of deepening ties between Algeria and China, with Higer having been established in the country for over 20 years. Beyond the buses, Algeria’s government is also pushing for local industrial growth.
On October 17, agreements were signed with three Algerian companies Peng-Pu Algérie, EDIV, and Tirsam to import and assemble the buses locally. These partnerships aim at developing a sustainable domestic supply chain, ensuring long-term maintenance and service support.
While the import deal addresses urgent transport needs, it also marks a long-term strategy to boost Algeria’s manufacturing sector and reduce dependence on foreign imports.
