FAF lodges refereeing complaint to CAF and FIFA

The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has filed an official complaint with both CAF and FIFA over the refereeing of Algeria’s last match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, calling for an investigation and appropriate action under existing regulations.

In a statement released on Monday, the FAF urged unity and solidarity around the national team, describing the current period as one of rebuilding and steady progress. With major deadlines approaching in less than five months, including World Cup qualifiers, the federation stressed the need for calm, collective support and praised the players and coaching staff for their commitment throughout the tournament.

While acknowledging the team’s efforts, the FAF said it could not ignore refereeing decisions that raised serious questions and harmed the credibility of African officiating. The federation also called for lessons to be drawn from the campaign to come back stronger, thanking supporters, the media and public authorities, and reaffirming full confidence in the team despite Algeria’s 2–0 quarter-final defeat to Nigeria.
