Mostaganem cops crack down on speculators

Algerian security forces arrested a man Monday for illegally hoarding over 35 tons of subsidized farm fertilizer, seizing the undeclared stock from a warehouse in Mostaganem.

Acting on tips, the Economic and Financial Brigade of Mostaganem’s police, alongside gendarmes and under prosecutor oversight, raided the site with reps from commerce and agriculture offices. They uncovered a mismatch between declared and actual stock 35 tonnes and 180 kg flagging tax evasion and fraud.

The suspect faces charges of illicit speculation, missing invoices, hidden stockpiles, and market manipulation to create shortages. He was handed over to courts.
