Security forces foil major drug smuggling attempts in nationwide operations

Joint army units, working alongside security services, thwarted attempts to smuggle more than three quintals of processed cannabis across the western border last week, according to an operational report released on Thursday.
Between January 1 and 7, 2026, a series of coordinated operations led to the arrest of seven individuals linked to terrorist support networks and 28 drug traffickers, while large quantities of cannabis, cocaine and hallucinogenic pills were seized. The operations also targeted illegal gold mining, fuel and goods smuggling, and undocumented migration, reflecting sustained efforts to curb organized crime and protect national security across the country.
