Spanish court freezes Moroccan consulate accounts over scandal case

A Spanish court has ordered the seizure of bank accounts belonging to the Moroccan consulate in Murcia to enforce a final ruling in a case involving an ethical scandal and the abusive dismissal of a former employee.
The decision follows the consulate’s refusal to pay court-ordered compensation to a local staff member, despite exhausting all legal appeals. According to Spanish media, the case stems from a complaint filed by the former secretary of the ex-consul, who was convicted by Spanish courts in a morality scandal that the judiciary described as a serious violation of the employee’s fundamental rights, with direct harm to her health and career. The Murcia labor court annulled her dismissal, ordered her reinstatement, and awarded more than €50,000 in damages plus unpaid wages.
After continued non-compliance, the court enforced compulsory execution, seizing over €64,000 from the consulate’s operating account, while rejecting claims of diplomatic immunity, ruling that the dispute falls outside its scope.
