Algeria ramps up bus services ahead of Ramadan

Ahead of Ramadan, Algeria’s bus services are getting a major boost. Sogral is adding thousands of extra trips and extending operating hours to keep the country moving during the busy travel period. The company revealed that a total of 2,170 additional trips will be scheduled across the country this week.

The initiative comes in line with instructions from the Minister of Interior and Local Government and Transport, Saïd Saioud, aimed at ensuring accessible and flexible travel options for citizens during the holy month. To accommodate peak travel times, Sogral is adjusting 1,050 daily trips to evening and night hours, helping passengers avoid conflicts with iftar schedules.

In addition to boosting the number of trips, Sogral has deployed extra staff at stations, including security personnel and cleaning teams, while coordinating with local transport authorities and both public and private transport providers. Stations will also feature prayer spaces open 24 hours, as well as pop-up markets and community iftar tables to serve travellers.

The company is also promoting digital ticketing and electronic payments to reduce queues, and has partnered with traffic safety authorities to raise awareness on road safety during Ramadan. Health initiatives, including blood donation drives and guidance for patients with chronic illnesses, will also take place across key stations.

With these measures, Sogral aims to ensure safe, comfortable, and smooth travel for thousands of passengers throughout the month of Ramadan.
