Algeria seeks volleyball champs postponement

The Algerian Volleyball Federation (FAVB) has asked the African confederation to postpone the senior men’s and women’s African Championships due to a scheduling clash with the 2026 Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy.
FAVB president Mohand Tamadartaza said several federations made the same request to avoid player overload and injury risks caused by too many matches in a short period. Kenya is set to host the women’s event, while Congo Brazzaville will stage the men’s tournament.
To keep preparations on track, the federation has scheduled short monthly training camps, with the pre-competition phase expected to begin in late May or early June.
The FAVB also confirmed that its partnership with the Polish federation will take effect in June, bringing technical expertise, joint training programs, and friendly matches in Poland. Youth national teams, including the U17 sides qualified for the World Championships in Chile and Qatar, will also benefit.
New coaching staffs have been installed for the national teams, while beach volleyball squads are preparing for the Maghreb qualifiers for the African Championships, which Algeria will host.
