Ghali: Self-Determination the Only Path to Lasting Peace

Marking the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, President Brahim Ghali said self-determination remains the only path to a just and lasting peace in Western Sahara.
In a televised address, the Sahrawi leader reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing sovereignty over the entire territory, arguing that imposed solutions and territorial expansion have only deepened regional instability. He pointed to ongoing UN-led efforts, following Security Council Resolution 2797, to reach a mutually acceptable political settlement that would allow the Sahrawi people to freely decide their future.
Ghali also highlighted five decades of institution-building in exile, from governance and security structures to gains in education and healthcare, while urging the international community to complete the decolonization process.
