Gov meeting discuss key economic projects

Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb chaired a government meeting on Wednesday focused on key economic and infrastructure projects. Ministers reviewed the 2026–2030 hydrocarbons development plan, described as a major strategic roadmap to strengthen energy security, expand refining, petrochemicals, fertilizers and desalination, and support long-term economic growth.
The government also examined a project, backed by the African Development Bank, to build a new railway line linking Laghouat, Ghardaïa and El Meniaa as part of the national rail modernization program tied to high-impact economic projects. Officials discussed cleaning up outdated budgeted equipment projects to redirect funds toward priority programs with clear economic and social value.
In agriculture, a new patented sheep feed called “Sheep Date,” made from recycled date waste and developed by a Biskra research center, was presented as a local alternative to imported feed corn. The meeting also covered new demineralization plants in Tamanrasset and Tindouf to ease water stress in southern regions, and progress on importing and distributing new buses under the national plan to renew public transport fleets.
