Government reviews private education, Haj 2026 and key reform projects

Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb chaired a government meeting on Wednesday to review several key files, including the regulation of private education.

At the outset, ministers examined a draft executive decree setting new conditions for the accreditation, operation and oversight of private schools. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office, the text aims to address shortcomings observed in the field by introducing a stricter set of administrative, technical and pedagogical requirements.

Private institutions will now be required to comply with the national school map and strictly follow official curricula and textbooks, while respecting national values and standards.

The government also reviewed preparations for the 1447H/2026 Haj season. Authorities confirmed that contracts covering accommodation, catering, transport and medical supervision have been finalized. Procedures have been further streamlined through the Algerian Haj Portal, including the introduction of electronic payment for pilgrimage fees. Officials stressed the need for strong coordination between sectors to ensure a well-organized season that reflects positively on the country.

In addition, ministers discussed the 2026–2028 roadmap for the Vocational Training and Education sector, aimed at modernizing the system and turning it into a genuine driver of economic growth. The reform focuses on boosting graduates’ employability, improving training quality and aligning programs with labor market needs.

The meeting also included an update on the expansion works at the Port of Annaba, part of the broader Integrated Phosphate Project, the statement concluded.
