Hadith of the day

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“Whoever fasts during the month of Ramadan with faith and in the hope of divine reward will have their past sins forgiven.” (Reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
This hadith reminds us that fasting in Ramadan is more than just a physical abstinence. The Prophet (peace be upon him) emphasizes two essential conditions: faith (iman) and sincere intention (ihtisab) that is, consciously hoping for God’s reward. In other words, the value of fasting comes not only from the act itself but, above all, from the inner state of the one who observes it.
The forgiveness mentioned in this hadith should not be understood as automatic. It is a spiritual promise tied to genuine commitment: to abstain in order to purify oneself, to practice self-control in order to rise, and to turn physical effort into moral progress. Ramadan thus becomes a time for reconciliation with oneself, grounded in sincerity and perseverance.
This hadith also highlights the deeply merciful nature of the holy month. Ramadan is an opportunity offered to everyone, regardless of past mistakes, to start anew. It also reminds us that Islamic spirituality is based on a balance between outward actions and inner intention.
