New national data system goes live

Algeria has officially launched its national data governance framework, with Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb calling it a cornerstone of a modern, sovereign state and a major leap forward in the country’s digital transformation.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Algiers, Ghrieb said the new system shifts public administration from fragmented, paper-based management to a unified, data-centered digital model. Established by presidential decree, the framework is built on legal, technical, and institutional foundations and treats data as a strategic national asset on par with natural resources.
The initiative aims to secure, organize, and responsibly exploit public data while improving decision-making, public service quality, and government performance. It is also designed to support investment, innovation, artificial intelligence development, and international digital cooperation, positioning Algeria as a credible and competitive player in the global data econom
