Tipasa sets up carbon monoxide detector campaign

As of February 18, the Tipasa Electricity and Gas Distribution Authority has installed 378,730 free carbon monoxide detectors, providing two devices per household for 189,365 clients since the start of the campaign.

Despite the progress, technical teams reported refusals and 7,892 missed installations during field visits. To ensure all homes are equipped, the authority urges residents to visit their nearest agency with an ID and a utility bill to reschedule installation. Sonelgaz Tipasa has mobilized all resources to complete the campaign quickly.

Carbon monoxide, an odorless, colorless gas from incomplete combustion, can be deadly in enclosed spaces. Installed detectors have already saved families from serious poisoning incidents.

The campaign, launched in October 2024, also includes door-to-door checks to ensure gas installations comply with safety standards and to educate households on proper precautions against carbon monoxide risks and gas leaks.

Tipasa authorities emphasize that proper installation and awareness are key to preventing accidents and safeguarding residents’ health.
