Toward boosting local auto industry

Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb chaired an interministerial meeting on Tuesday to launch a multi-sector task force responsible for drafting a national reference framework for local integration in the automotive, bus and motorcycle industries.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the document will serve as the official benchmark for calculating manufacturers’ integration rates, allowing them to benefit from incentives provided under the current legal framework.

The reference will also lay the groundwork for building a strong national network of subcontractors producing parts and components, with the aim of gradually increasing local content and establishing a sustainable automotive industry integrated into global value chains.

In addition, the initiative is expected to create long-term jobs, strengthen technology transfer, enhance national expertise and reduce the import bill for spare parts and components.
