Tribute from President Tebboune to Algeria builders

On February 24, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune commemorated two significant events: the creation of the General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA) in 1956 and the nationalization of hydrocarbons in 1971. Delivered by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, the President’s speech emphasized the importance of active memory and collective effort.
Tebboune highlighted the UGTA’s role as a product of a pivotal moment where social and national interests merged during Algeria’s liberation struggle. He honored the sacrifices of workers and linked their legacy to the nation’s modern state, reinforcing the idea that legitimacy is built over time.
The nationalization of hydrocarbons was presented as a historic decision demonstrating Algeria’s sovereignty. The President praised the efforts of engineers and technicians in ensuring energy production continuity. He stressed that sovereignty involves organization and competence, not merely rhetoric.
Tebboune outlined Algeria’s achievements in energy, stating it is now the 7th largest gas exporter globally. He called for ongoing skill development, especially among youth, to ensure economic sovereignty.
In closing, the President paid tribute to all those dedicated to advancing Algeria’s projects and urged them to continue the path laid down in 1971, drawing strength from past challenges to enhance the sector’s capabilities.
