900 tonnes of cardboard and plastic recycled in Tissemsilt

In 2025, Tissemsilt collected and recycled over 900 tonnes of cardboard and plastic, according to Fathi Farfar, director of the public institution managing the region’s technical landfill centres.
Most of the cardboard came from the provincial capital, thanks to awareness campaigns targeting wholesale and retail traders, encouraging them to participate in recycling efforts. The recovered materials from all 22 municipalities, including Khmissti, Bordj Emir Abdelkader, Thénia El Had, Amari, and Bordj Bou Naama, were compressed to reduce their volume before being sold as raw material to industrial companies in neighbouring regions .
The recycling volumes have risen compared with 2024, attracting private investment due to the economic and environmental benefits, while also creating local jobs. These efforts are part of the national strategy of the Ministry of Environment and Quality of Life, which aims to achieve a 10% national recycling rate by 2035.
