A Ramadan night steeped in Andalusian soul

The Ibn Zeydoun hall at the Office Riad El Feth came alive Monday night with the sounds of M’dih, as the Andalusian music association El Djazira lit up the Ramadan evening with a performance rich in heritage and spirit.

Led by Nasreddine Hammouche (Bassirou), around twenty musicians  including thirteen women took the audience on a melodic journey through the modes of Raml El Maya, Zidène and Gh’rib. Dressed in flowing silk and velvet embroidered with gold, they embodied the elegance of Algeria’s ancestral traditions.

For nearly two hours, soulful voices, delicate oud phrases and vibrant banjo interludes blended into a warm, devotional atmosphere. The audience responded with heartfelt applause and ululations, savoring every note of a recital that honored both faith and the enduring beauty of Andalusian art.
