Auto sector shifts towards local value

Algeria is pushing its automotive industry towards stronger local integration, with plans to build a national network of specialised subcontractors producing parts and components.
A government-led task force is working on a national integration framework to measure local content and guide incentives. The aim is clear: cut imports, boost domestic production and create sustainable jobs.
Beyond simple vehicle assembly, the sector is seen as a driver of wider industrial growth, linking activities from metallurgy and plastics to logistics and engineering. The focus is now shifting from output volumes to real value creation at home.
Subcontracting sits at the heart of this strategy. By partnering with experienced international suppliers, local firms can improve quality, gain know-how and gradually enter global value chains.
While challenges remain including land access, financing and technical capacity the direction is set: build a structured, competitive ecosystem that anchors the automotive industry firmly within the national economy.
