Digital shake-up at Algeria’s unemployment fund

Algeria’s Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Abdelhak Saihi, chaired a session to review the activities of the National Unemployment Insurance Fund, ministry officials said.

The fund’s Director General outlined efforts to support employment, improve service quality, and advance digitalisation, as well as progress on previous recommendations.

Minister Saihi stressed the need to move away from traditional management and fully embrace digital services, aiming to simplify procedures, speed up case handling, and improve efficiency. He also proposed updating the fund’s law to support job creation, entrepreneurship, and start-ups, while investing in staff training to meet modern public service challenges.

He highlighted the importance of a single-window system and coordinated efforts across provinces to spare beneficiaries the hassle of visiting multiple offices. Saihi concluded by underlining the need for regular follow-up to track reform progress.
