Eid celebrations under close watch

Ahead of Eid El-Fitr, police in Algiers have rolled out a wide-ranging security plan to ensure public safety during the holiday period.

The operation, described as preventive, aims to protect citizens and their property amid increased crowds and movement, with officers deployed across public spaces, mosques, cemeteries and transport hubs.

Particular attention is being given to the Eid prayer at the Great Mosque of Algiers, where a dedicated security and traffic plan has been put in place to manage large gatherings and ease congestion.

Police units will also focus on road safety, stepping up traffic control and awareness campaigns to reduce accidents, especially those linked to speeding.

Authorities said surveillance systems, including CCTV, have been fully activated, alongside a continuous police presence before, during and after the festivities.

Emergency services remain on alert, with hotlines and the “Allo Chorta” app available for citizens to report incidents and seek assistance.
