Guterres visits Beirut in solidarity as death toll rises in Lebanon

António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, arrived in Beirut on Friday for what he described as a “visit of solidarity” with the people of Lebanon, as violence in the country continues to claim lives.
In a message shared on social media, Guterres said he had come to express support for the Lebanese people and reaffirm the UN’s commitment to peace in the region. “The United Nations and I will spare no effort to work toward the peaceful future that Lebanon and this region deserve,” he said.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health, the Israeli offensive launched on March 2 has left at least 687 people dead and 1,774 injured across the country.
The UN chief’s visit comes amid growing international concern over the escalating humanitarian toll and calls for renewed efforts to restore stability in Lebanon.
