Illegal 46 tones of banana stock uncovered in Blida

Authorities in Blida have seized 46 tonnes of bananas that were being illegally stored in cold rooms without prior declaration to trade services.
According to a statement from the National Gendarmerie on Monday, the operation followed information about large quantities of bananas being hidden in storage facilities. The move is part of ongoing efforts to ensure the regular supply of basic food products during Ramadan and to combat illegal speculation.
During the inspection, gendarmes and trade officials from Boufarik checked six cold rooms. Three had already been emptied by the owner, who reportedly sold the fruit before it had matured and without declaring it to authorities. The remaining three rooms contained the 46 tonnes of bananas, which were immediately seized.
The confiscated stock will be handed over to the Boufarik trade inspection, while legal proceedings have been launched against those involved for illegal speculation and unfair commercial practices.
