15 Days to decide: Algeria’s high-stakes election kick-off

The road to Algeria’s July 2 legislative elections officially opens today. This Sunday marks the start of an “exceptional revision” of the national voter rolls, a high-stakes registration window that will define the electorate for the upcoming parliamentary battle.

The National Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE) is urging all eligible citizens including those turning 18 by election day to ensure their names are on the ballot. With the revision period set to close on April 26, the pressure is on for voters and political hopefuls alike to mobilize.

Registration Essentials

For those who have moved or are registering for the first time, you have until April 26 to visit your local commission (9:00 AM – 4:00 PM) with an ID and proof of residence. Alternatively, citizens can skip the lines by using the official digital portal at services.ina-elections.dz. This process also applies to the Algerian diaspora through global consulates.

The Road to the Ballot

Following recent constitutional shifts, the ANIE now holds full authority over the process, from candidate vetting to final results, while the administration provides the necessary logistics. Once registration closes, the focus shifts to signature collection and a rigorous 45-day candidate review period.

The official campaign will launch 23 days before the vote, concluding with a three-day “electoral silence” to allow voters a final period of reflection before the July 2 polls.
