Algeria proposes new electoral district law

Algeria’s Minister of Interior, Local Government and Transport, Said Sayoud, presented a draft law on electoral districts and parliamentary seats on Saturday to the National People’s Assembly’s Committee on Legal, Administrative Affairs, Freedoms, and Human Rights.

Speaking alongside Minister for Relations with Parliament, Najiba Djelali, Sayoud described the draft as a “key building block for a fair and balanced representative system,” reflecting the country’s demographic and administrative changes.

The law aims to align electoral boundaries with the new regional divisions, marking a step toward stronger electoral justice, institutional stability, and greater responsiveness to citizens’ expectations.
