Bejaïa Celebrates Olive Heritage and Ambitions

The 24th Olive Festival opened on Monday at the House of Culture in Béjaïa, bringing together producers, experts, and visitors around a sector that remains vital to Algeria’s economy.
Held under the theme of building a modern, competitive olive industry, the event highlights local know-how while supporting farmers and promoting regional products—from olive oil and olives to honey and dried figs. Prices for olive oil have eased this year, averaging around 700 dinars per litre.
Beyond exhibition stands, the festival serves as a platform for discussion, with experts stressing the need for quality labels and international certification to boost exports and position Algerian olive oil on global markets.
With nearly 57,000 hectares of olive groves and an annual production reaching up to 25 million litres, Béjaïa continues to assert itself as a key player in the country’s olive industry, combining tradition with growing ambitions for international recognition.
