El Menia reconnected to Algiers skies

On Friday evening, a Boeing 737 carrying 148 passengers touched down at El Menia airport, marking the official return of direct flights from Algiers. The long-awaited reopening comes as part of a broader push by Interior Minister Saïd Sayoud to strengthen domestic air links and improve travel conditions across the country.
For many travelers, the moment felt overdue. Passengers welcomed the move, calling it a real step forward in reconnecting southern regions with the capital without the long, exhausting alternatives.
With two weekly flights now scheduled alongside existing services, the route is expected to ease mobility, boost local activity, and bring a renewed sense of connection between north and south.
A small landing, perhaps but one with big meaning for those on board.
