Electoral law update gets green light

Members of Algeria’s Council of the Nation approved, on Thursday afternoon, a revised electoral law, marking another step in updating the country’s legal framework ahead of future elections.

The vote took place during a plenary session chaired by Azouz Nasri, in the presence of Interior Minister Saïd Sayoud and Minister of Relations with Parliament Nadjiba Djilali.

The new text introduces amendments and additions to Ordinance 21-01, which governs the country’s electoral system. The changes aim to further refine the legal and organizational aspects of elections, as part of ongoing institutional reforms.
