Farm training drive launched to fix the sector’s shortfalls

Algeria is racing against time to fix a costly problem in its fields: a shortage of skilled workers handling modern farm machinery.

During a coordination meeting led by Nassima Arhab, officials rolled out an urgent plan to train harvester drivers and technicians ahead of the upcoming harvest season.

The move comes as poor handling of equipment especially harvesters continues to cause significant crop losses. The new training sessions, kicking off in early April, aim to give workers practical, on-the-ground skills to operate and maintain machinery more efficiently. Beyond the immediate fix, the plan also looks to the future, encouraging young people to step into the sector with new skills and even launch their own ventures in agricultural services.
