Pope Leon XIV visits St Augustine’s care home

In a moving second stop of his historic visit to Algeria, Pope Leon, XIV visited the St Augustine Church care home this Tuesday, bringing a message of global brotherhood to the coast of Annaba.

The atmosphere was electric as residents from across the globe welcomed the Pontiff with a poignant rendition of “Peace be upon you, O land of my ancestors.” The home’s staff took the opportunity to publicly thank the Algerian people for their “overwhelming generosity,” noting that local donations have been vital in allowing them to continue their mission of care.

“This place is a symbol of love, solidarity, and brotherhood,” the Pope remarked. “It embodies hope in a world often overshadowed by war and injustice.”

The visit concluded with residents presenting the Pope with symbolic gifts, marking a day where Annaba stood as a beacon of human coexistence for the rest of the world to see.
