Study in Algeria plan turn global

In a bid to position itself as a rising academic hub in Africa, Algeria is accelerating efforts to open its universities to the world blending education, culture, and international cooperation into a single strategy.
Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Kamel Baddari chaired a high-level coordination meeting in Algiers to review progress on the “Study in Algeria” initiative, a flagship project aimed at attracting international students and strengthening the country’s academic visibility.
The meeting brought together senior ministry officials and heads of regional university conferences to assess ongoing preparations for two major upcoming events: the first African University Theater Festival and the North African University Games. Both are seen as key platforms to showcase student talent while fostering cultural exchange across the continent.
Discussions also focused on expanding international partnerships, with an emphasis on twinning agreements between Algerian universities and their global counterparts an effort designed to boost academic mobility, research collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
As Algeria looks to redefine its place on the academic map, officials say initiatives like “Study in Algeria” reflect a broader ambition: to transform the country into a dynamic crossroads for education, innovation, and cultural dialogue.
