Algeria Pushes Renewed UN Backing for Western Sahara Self-Determination

At a United Nations decolonization seminar in Managua, Algeria renewed its call for a “just and lasting” solution to the Western Sahara dispute, reaffirming its support for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination.

Speaking before UN delegates, Algerian diplomat Toufik Koudri rejected what he described as Morocco’s “misleading narratives” on the issue, stressing that Western Sahara remains one of the world’s last non-self-governing territories under UN decolonization frameworks.

Algeria also welcomed the resumption of direct talks between Morocco and the Polisario Front under UN auspices, insisting that any final agreement must guarantee the Sahrawi people’s internationally recognized right to choose their own future.
